SILJE & JOHAN // Farm Wedding on the Helgeland Coast

Some weddings you just know will go down in history, and this was definitely one of them. I’m so incredibly happy that I got to get to know these beautiful souls and be a part of their wedding weekend. And to see even more of our magical country. This trip also took my breath away a couple of times. Johan grew up in Brønnøysund, but his parents grew up in two lovely places a little further out on the periphery, and I got to visit both of them. On the first day, I got to visit his father’s childhood paradise—Hysvær—one of the outermost fishing villages on the Helgeland coast and part of Vega Øyan. A small islet with the ocean stretching as far as the eye can see. Absolutely, absolutely magical. This is where the groom’s father grew up, and the house is still in the family. The silence there was so profound—I heard nothing but the sounds of nature, and I soaked up every ray of sunshine and every moment of this rare experience. The bride and groom had even spent an entire summer on that little island as bird wardens. Since time immemorial, eiderdown has been harvested here, and that tradition is still upheld. Anyway—an incredibly beautiful day and an experience I’ll remember until I’m old.

Furthermore, Johan’s mother grew up on a small farm deep inside Ursfjorden in Sømna, and that’s where the entire wedding took place. The family from Brønnøysund, Silje’s family from Otta in Gudbrandsdalen, and even more people from the village worked tirelessly to get the barn ready for a proper wedding weekend. They even managed to clear a path through the forest leading down to the fjord and the rocky shores. That’s where the ceremony took place, and the whole day was simply a dream come true. The evening/night before the wedding, the bride and groom and I also took a short hike up a hill and found peace and quiet under the full moon, surrounded by mountains and the sea.

And I mean it when I say this: Silje and Johan—thank you for all the experiences you’ve enriched my life with—whether through guided tours and historical insights, great conversations, wonderful friends and families, or a flawless wedding day. It even ended with a midnight swim with a large number of the guests. It was truly an experience of a lifetime, and I feel so honored to have shared this with you. Now it’s time for others to enjoy it too and pick up some great tips on how to throw a successful celebration :)
